Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman is a professor of the department of surgery at Ship International Hospital. He carries out operations on thyroid gland like hemithyroidectomy, total thyroidectomy, near total thyroidectomy, operations on breast like mastectomy, excision biopsy of breast lumps, operations on stomach like vagotomy and bypass, partial gastrectomy, operations on gut like right hemicolectomy, left hemicolectomy, anterior resection, APR, operation on pancreas like Pancreaticojejunostomy, Pancreaticoduodenectomy, operations on anorectal region like Fistulectomy, Haemorrhoidectomy (Longo procedure), Sphincterotomy, on HBS, Cholecystectomy and Choledocholithotomy, Hepaticojejunostomy with a Roux loop & Liver Resection, etc. He also performs laparoscopic procedures like, Diagnostic Laparoscopy, Cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, Hernioplasty, and high ligation of varicocele, etc. In 1989 he completed his MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College and completed his FCPS (Surgery) from Bangladesh College of Physicians & Surgeons in 2002. Finally, he completed MRCS from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (UK) in 2008 and FRCS from Royal College of Glasgow of Edinburgh (UK) in 2017.

In 2002-2003, he was a Resident Surgeon at Shahid Suhrawardi Hospital in General Surgery. He performed numerous surgical procedures such as vagotomy and bypass, partial gastrectomy, right hemicolectomy, left hemicolectomy, open/laparoscopic appendicectomy, cholecystectomy, choledocholithotomy, ureterolithotomy, herniorrhaphy/hernioplasty, gut resection, and anastomosis with or without covering ileostomy. He worked as an Assistant Professor from 2003 to 2007 and Associate Professor from 2007 to 2010 at the Department of Surgery, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He performed his duties and responsibilities as a unit head. He is fully registered with Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council as a specialist.
