Common Symptoms

Facial Drooping

One side of the face may droop or feel numb. Does the person's smile look uneven?

Arm Weakness

One arm may feel weak or numb. When the person raises both arms, does one drift downward?

Speech Difficulty

Speech may be slurred or difficult to understand. Can the person repeat a simple sentence?

Sudden Vision Change

Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes, or double vision.

Common Treatments

  • tPA (Clot-busting Drug): A medication that can dissolve the clot and restore blood flow to the brain if given within 4.5 hours.
  • Thrombectomy: A procedure to manually remove a large blood clot from an artery in the brain.
  • Rehabilitation: Focused therapy including physical, occupational, and speech therapy to regain lost functions.
