Common Symptoms

Joint Local Pain

Pain in the affected joint during or after movement.

Stiffness

Joint stiffness noticed most upon awakening or after being inactive.

Loss of Flexibility

Inability to move the joint through its full range of motion.

Grating Sensation

Feeling or hearing a popping or crackling (crepitus) when using the joint.

Diagnosis & Treatment

Diagnosis

Diagnosis is based on a physical exam to check for tenderness and imaging to see bone spurs.

Common Treatments

  • Physical Therapy: Customized exercises to strengthen muscles and increase range of motion.
  • Cortisone Injections: Injections into the joint that may relieve pain for a few weeks or months.
