Stroke is the 2nd leading cause of death globally following ischemic heart disease.

In Bangladesh, the prevalence of stroke is 11.39 per thousand.

The male & female ratio is 2:1.

More common in the elderly population.  More than ¾ cases are ischemic stroke. Regional variation of stroke prevalence has been noted.  Stroke prevalence is highest in the Mymensingh division.

Stroke is more common in elderly population but it can also occur in younger population with underlying heart conditions. In the context of our country, young people with underlying rheumatic heart disease frequently present with cardioembolic stroke. Some hematological conditions e.g., Sickle cell anemia can also cause stroke in younger population.  Some genetic diseases can cause stroke in younger population which is less common.

Risk factors of stroke are many but Hypertension, Diabetes, Dyslipidemia, smoking, obesity, positive Family history & heart diseases are the most important risk factors.

Stroke Care: 24/7 Dedicated Unit with Exceptional Services at Our Hospital

  • In our hospital, we have got dedicated stroke unit that is open 24/7.
  • In our stroke unit, we have got 4 beds. Imaging facilities e.g., CT & MRI can be done at any time throughout the day.
  • Ambulance service is available for 24 hours a day.
  • A patient can call our helpline number so that an ambulance can go & pick up the patient from home to our hospital.
  • In our emergency department, doctors from the neurology department are available who are very expert in dealing with stroke patients.
  • Post-stroke rehabilitation services are also available which is conducted by our physiotherapy department. 

As number of stroke patients is increasing day by day, we are planning to expand the number of beds in our stroke unit.
