SHIP International hospital’s cardiovascular team successfully performed a minimally invasive and advanced surgery called Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR) on 18th of May, 2025!
A 57 years old patient has developed a thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA). TAA is a bulge or swelling in the aorta, the main artery carrying blood from the heart, in the chest area.
This patient visited many hospitals in Dhaka, desperately seeking treatment for his disease and life. Daspit his and his family’s effort, he could not find a hospital or doctor that could treat this complex and fatal disease. So, he became hopeless and was planning to have the treatment oversea.
However, a professor at NICVD recommended the patient to go to SHIP International Hospital. At first, he had doubts about going to the hospital he had never heard of, but once he entered the hospital and met a doctor his doubts were gone.
Our team carefully planned the surgery with patient and patient family, and also support from a vender which provide an endovascular stent graft. TEVAR is a less invasive surgery compared with conventional open surgery. Skin incision is made only in groin area and the length of hospital stay is only 5 days.
